OVERVIEW AND DESCRIPTION
Welcome and Aloha! This program provides Korean teacher-participants with facilitated professional development opportunities in foreign language communication. English language component features co-curricular activities, field experiences and individual language study in the following areas: Content-based Learning; Correcting Errors; Developing and Using Games in EFL Classrooms; Giving Feedback; Learning Styles and Language Acquisition; Making Textbooks Communicative; Media and Technology in EFL; Teacher Talk and Student Talk; Teaching English in English; Teaching Listening, Pronunciation, Reading, Speaking, Vocabulary, Writing; Using Video and Role-play; Working with Mixed Levels.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the conclusion of this course teacher-participants will:
1. Develop an understanding of the practices of current TESOL methodology. (Critical Thinking, Effective Oral Communication, Second-language Proficiency)
2. Demonstrate an awareness of effective classroom management techniques and the changing role of the teacher and student in the classroom. (Critical Thinking, Effective Oral Communication, Second-language Proficiency)
3. Develop and demonstrate an understanding of student-centered lesson planning and teaching through effective assessment and learning outcome strategies. (Critical Thinking, Effective Oral Communication, Second-language Proficiency)
4. Develop and demonstrate an awareness of student-centered guided language teaching techniques through skills practice. (Critical Thinking, Effective Oral Communication, Second-language Proficiency)
5. Develop an understanding of life-long self-directed learning through reviewing current literature, assessing teaching materials, updated technology and building teaching skill sets. (Critical Thinking, Effective Oral Communication, Second-language Proficiency)

Come prepared to actively and enthusiastically participate in individual and group activities.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE USAGE REQUIREMENT
All class and personal discussions during class time shall be in English. Your overall assessment for this course will be reduced if English is not used. Throughout this course I will be coaching you and correcting you on your English pronunciation of words and phrases. Encountering difficulties? Seek my assistance.
FIELD TRIPS
Field trips are featured in this course. They provide teacher-participants with learning experiences connected with the goals, objectives and course outcomes that cannot be replicated in the classroom.
MOBILE PHONE POLICY
Turn off cell phones during class time. Turn your phone on after class is dismissed.

FACULTY BIOGRAPHY
Born and raised in Greenwich, Connecticut near New York City, I earned my B.A. degree in Communications (Business) from Pace University in New York, and a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) with a concentration in Social Studies, curriculum development and methodology, gifted and talented learning from Manhattanville College, New York. For over 25 years I’ve taught traditional and online-based classes. I am president of a non-profit association of history educators, a published author and speaker. I am an adjunct lecturer in speech communications at Hawaii Tokai International College. I sit on the boards of various civic organizations. In my free time I enjoy reading, gardening, exercising, traveling, hiking, listening to music, podcasts and online radio.
