Hooray! The Weekend is Almost Here!
Guess what, Baewha Women's University students? The weekend is almost here!
After your final class on Friday you have two days to explore and enjoy the sights, tastes and sounds of Hawaii. There is much to do and many places to see.
After your personal introductions are finished let's plan your first weekend on Oahu. Think about what you want to do. I have a section on the lower right section of this blog called Hawaii Links You Can Use!
Remember that each Saturday morning, 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. the farmer's market is open at Kapiolani Community College. This is a great place to purchase some good food, meet local people and, of course, practice your English skills. Bring cash and cameras!
I am aware that all of you love to shop! Guess what? There is a discount store my friends and former students recommend -and it's nearby! Check out Nordstrom Rack Ward Center. Any of the buses on Kapiolani Blvd. heading towards downtown stop at Kamakee Street. After you disembark, cross the street and walk away from the mountains towards the ocean. Walk two blocks and you will see a big parking lot on the right side. Look for the Nordstrom Rack store and get ready to save money!
Every Friday at sunset fireworks are set off at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on the ocean. I recommend sitting on the beach with your friends. Bring some food with you as the sunsets. Guess what? Both sunset and fireworks are free and open to the public.
Do you enjoy hiking? Hawaii features some of the best hiking trails. One of my favorites is Makapuu Point in East Oahu. My friend Luis Chen posted some nice photos and information at PortAloha.com. You will be pleased to know that during the winter you might see humpback whales. The #23 Bus goes from Ala Moana Center to Makapuu and back. Please check the bus listings for times.
