KTC Summer 2012 Speech Class: Paired Assignments

*Paired Assignment #1: Slang Expressions! What do they mean? How do you use them correctly?
This paired assignment is due in class on Tuesday, July 10, 2012.

You will work with another student in the class and deliver a 3-4-minute presentation on this topic.

English language features many slang expressions. Choose from a list of a slang expressions one expression that you are either unfamiliar with or one that interests you. 

Tell us the slang expression you chose. Why does it interest you? Define and explain what the expression means. Then use it properly in a sentence. Go to this web site for some examples.

*Paired Assignment #2: Report the News! Help Keep People Informed.
This paired assignment is due in class on Tuesday, July 17, 2012.

Please choose a news story. Pretend you are a news reporter for KBS in South Korea. Here is the link to KBS America. Read your news story to the class in English language. Remember that your task is to do more than read the words –your job is to perform as if you were an English language KBS reporter. Report the news with expression!






*Paired Assignment #3: Read Aloud
This paired assignment is due in class on Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Reading aloud is one of the most popular examples of public speaking. Everyone at some point in their lives will read aloud to others. Choose a short story, a poem at least ten lines long, or a short speech that is appropriate to the time limit (2-3 minutes). Pay particular attention to your delivery style. Show enthusiasm and passion for your selected reading. Work on varying your tone of voice and rate. Don’t forget pronunciation, too!
