Greetings all!
It's Sunday evening, and I hope that each of you enjoyed your weekend. I look forward to hearing about your trip to the Polynesian Cultural Center on the Windward Coast of Oahu, among other things.
On Monday, August 1 we are scheduled to meet 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. First, let's hear about your weekend activities and answer your questions. I am here to help you succeed in your program and to assist you with getting around Honolulu.
I will be asking each of you to deliver a short descriptive speech presentation on your experience at Honolulu's Mission Houses Museum. What was one item you found most interesting? Why was it interesting to you? Then, conclude with your reflections on the overall experience at the museum.
On Tuesday, August 2, we are scheduled to meet at the Hawaii Judiciary History Center. Each of you will be participating in a mock trial activity. So, on Monday you will be given a written script. We're going to rehearse after roles are selected. Of course, our proceedings in court will be in English. Please bring your script with you. No, you are not required to memorize your lines!
I want you to check out this blog entry from an ESL teacher at the National Museum of American History. We'll discuss how you can use objects and field experiences at museums and public facilities such as the Hawaii Judiciary History Center.
